Machinery spare parts from China
Last updated
Industrial spare parts are a good fit for Chinese sourcing for an unglamorous reason: they are dense, low volume and high value per kilogram, which makes air freight defensible in a way it never is for consumer goods.
A three-kilogram part that stops a production line is not the same purchase as three kilograms of mugs, and the freight arithmetic should not be made as though it were.

Categories that work well
- Wear parts — liners, blades, dies, rollers, screens. Consumed continuously, geometry simple, material specifiable.
- Transmission components — belts, chains, sprockets, couplings, gearboxes. Largely standardised.
- Machined components to a drawing — the core competence, and where the price difference is largest.
- Pneumatic and hydraulic fittings — standardised, cheap, easy to specify by thread and pressure rating.
- Bearings and seals — available, but grade and provenance matter more here than almost anywhere else.
Categories to approach carefully
Bearings are the most counterfeited industrial component there is. Branded bearings at a domestic Chinese price are not genuine. Buy unbranded to a specification from a manufacturer you can identify, or buy branded through an authorised distributor and pay for it.
Anything with a pressure, lifting or safety rating carries certification that a remanufactured part does not inherit. Understand where that liability sits before you order.
Electronic control components — drives, PLCs, sensors. The counterfeit and refurbished-as-new problem is severe and hard to detect on arrival.
Freight, which is unusually friendly here
- Dense parts bill on actual weight, so the estimate is predictable and volumetric weight rarely bites.
- Air freight is 3–7 days and is often the correct answer despite the cost, because downtime is the larger number.
- Sea becomes worth it for planned stock replenishment rather than breakdowns — 25–45 days, much cheaper per kilogram.
- Long items, castings and anything over about 1.5 m need oversize handling and should be flagged before quoting.
Building a stock strategy rather than firefighting
The economics improve enormously when you stop buying parts the day they fail. Identify the wear items with predictable lives, order them by sea in one consolidated consignment, and keep the air-freight route for genuine surprises.
That single change usually saves more than any negotiation on unit price.
Questions & answers
Common questions
- Can you source branded industrial components?
- We will not source branded bearings or control components on the domestic market, because at those prices they are not genuine. Unbranded to a specification, yes.
- What lead time should I plan for?
- Stock items 1–2 weeks to the warehouse plus freight. Made-to-drawing parts 2–4 weeks plus freight, longer if tooling is involved.
- Can you hold stock for us?
- Yes — goods can sit at the warehouse and ship on call, with storage charged after the free period.
